GOAL STATEMENT – To enhance Ohio law and equality among transgender people by allowing the amendment of legal documents to reflect the current sex after undergoing surgical procedures to change one’s sex. 2. SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM – In Ohio the law doesn’t recognize transgender surgical procedures as a justifiable reason to make changes. If a transgender man or woman undergoes surgical procedure to change their sex, Ohio will not incorporate any form of correction of sex on birth certificates. The transgender community is directly affected by this problem. Most transgender people will explain that being transgender, means they feel more connected to the sex opposite that of which they were born. In any situation where a person isn’t happy, they may decide to make changes. Well in the transgender community this change can cost up to thousands of dollars, and it requires surgery. However, if you are in Ohio, these changes essentially mean nothing if you are looking to build a new life with your new-found identity.
